Ziad is currently a PDRA supervised by Prof. Gabriele Sosso. Ziad is currently working on studying Atmospheric Ice Nucleation. Specifically, Ziad's project will to be build simple models that capture the ice nucleation capabilities of various classes of dust particles in clouds.
Previously, Ziad was a PhD student of HetSys supervised jointly by Prof. Scott Habershon and Prof. Gabriele Sosso. Ziad extended ideas from the work of the Habershon Group on automated reaction pathway discovery to generate protein folding pathway ensembles but with a reduced "graph-based" or "contact-map" representation.
Ziad also completed his undergraduate education with a First Class in Maths and Physics at the University of the Warwick. He was introduced to ML-based protein structure predictoin by Dr. Peter Winn (Biosciences) from the University of Birmingham while he worked a summer project under his supervision. Ziad also completed a final year project on the application of Machine Learning and Topological Data Analysis for Drug Repositioning under the supervision of Dr. Martin Lotz (Maths). Ziad was awarded for a top performance on the project by the Physics Department.
In general, Ziad is interested in complex molecular dynamical systems, especially those with emergent phenomenon like proteins!
