Ziad is currently a PhD student of HetSys supervised jointly by Professor Scott Habershon and Dr. Gabriele Sosso. For his PhD, Ziad is extending ideas from the work of the Habershon Group on automated reaction pathway discovery to generate protein folding pathway ensembles, use this to evaluate most probable folding pathways, and investigate how knowledge of these folding mechanisms can be used.
Previously Ziad completed his undergraduate education with a First Class in Maths and Physics at the University of the Warwick. Ziad was introduced to problems related to protein structure by Dr. Peter Winn from the University of Birmingham while he worked a summer project under his supervision. Ziad later pursued a BSc project on the application of Machine Learning and Topological Data Analysis for Drug Repositioning under the supervision of Dr. Martin Lotz, for which Ziad was awarded for by the Physics Department.
In general, Ziad is interested in complex molecular systems, especially those with biological significance like proteins!
