Ice is Born in Low-mobility Regions of Supercooled Liquid Water

Dynamics matters!

I really am quite proud of this work. It all started – it’s a long story, you have time… – somewhere in Switzerland (2013, I’d say…), when a certain Emanuela Del Gado (now in Washington D.C.) had a look at some work of mine about supercooled liquid GeTe and introduced my to the wondrous world of dynamical heterogeneity. Years later, we thought about applying the same theoretical framework to water and ice… uncovering quite a few interesting things in the process. In fact, 24h after the online publications, we got the  privilege of receiving a commentary from J.C. Palmer – not bad, methink. Anyway. Have a look at the manuscript online – or just grab a .pdf!
